Washington, D.C., April 2, 2016—The organizing committee and USA Deaf Volleyball are honored to welcome Dr. Valery Rukhledev, president of International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD), and Mr. Dmitry Rebrov, ICSD’s chief executive officer, to the Volleyball Drawing of Lots Ceremony at Gallaudet University. The ceremony will be held on April 9, 2016 from 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. EST (20:30 – 21:30 UTC/GMT).
Four men’s teams will participate in the 2016 Pan American Deaf Men’s Volleyball Regional Qualifier. They are Brazil, Canada, USA, and Venezuela. Only the top three men’s teams will qualify for the 2017 Summer Deaflympics.
Four women’s teams will participate in the 2016 Pan American Deaf Women’s Volleyball Championship. They are Argentina, Brazil, Canada, and USA, and all of them will compete in the 2017 Summer Deaflympics.
Competition for both men and women will be conducted in a single 4-team pool of round robin play. As host, USA will be seeded #1 in both events.
For the 2016 World Deaf Volleyball Championships, all ranked teams will be seeded into their respective pools, and all unranked teams will be drawn into the remaining slots. Here is the drawing of lots plan for the world championships.
On the men’s side, the 13 teams are Ghana, Kenya, and Nigeria from the Confederation of African Deaf Sports (CADS); India, Iran, Japan and Nepal from the Asia Pacific Deaf Sports Confederation (APDSC); Russia, Turkey and Ukraine from the European Deaf Sports Organization (EDSO); and Brazil, Canada and USA from the Pan American Deaf Sports Organization (PANAMDES).
On the women’s side, the 9 teams are Ghana and Kenya (CADS); Japan (APDSC); Poland, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine (EDSO); and Canada and USA (PANAMDES).
